10-Week Summer Program

The 10-week Summer Program, geared toward high school students ages 16 and over and out-of-state college students, provides hands-on experience through a traditional hospital volunteer role. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work directly with patients and families in a variety of hospitality and outpatient clinic roles throughout the hospital. Those who are selected will be asked to commit to 10 consecutive weeks of volunteering, once a week for a regularly scheduled three-hour shift, between June and August.

To have their applications be considered, volunteers must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years old by June 1, 2020, to apply
  • Must submit application between February 1– March 6, 2020
  • All applicants will be notified of their status by March 16, 2020
  • Must be able to commit to 10 consecutive weeks of volunteering, once a week for a regularly scheduled three-hour shift, between June and August 2020

If you are unable to meet the commitments required of this opportunity, please consider applying to our Summer Intensive Program.

If selected, applicants must also complete the following steps:

  1. A health and immunization record review
  2. A scheduled individual interview
  3. A criminal background check, provided by Lurie Children’s
  4. A 3-hour orientation
  5. Payment of $20 processing fee for the cost of volunteer uniforms and other related expenses
  6. Assignment-specific training with a staff supervisor
