At Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, we depend on your generosity to deliver the very best care and discover lifesaving cures and treatments. With your support, we can help children get back to doing what they do best: being kids!

Meet Julian

“We first found out Julian likely had polycystic kidney disease when I was eight months pregnant,” remembers Julian’s mom, Lisa.

At three days old, Julian was transferred to Lurie Children’s. “Right away we met the team that was going to take care of him,”said Lisa. A team of specialists helped the new parents prepare for the reality that their son would someday need both a kidney and liver transplant.

After years of good health, his kidney and liver function began to decline. “He has always had an amazing spirit but he was a little less active than the other kids, a little less strong than the other kids,” shared his dad, Brian. Things became more challenging for Julian when he had to go on dialysis. “He is a big swimmer and he couldn’t swim for nine months while on dialysis.”

The family met with the transplant team at Lurie Children's and ultimately decided that a liver-kidney transplant was the best option to help Julian get back to his normal life. After months of waiting, doctors at Lurie Children’s found a new kidney and liver for Julian and performed a successful double transplant.

After recovering from surgery, Julian has been swimming every day. His transplant gave him the freedom to play at the park and join any sports he likes. “My mom signed me up for tennis clubs and karate clubs,” said Julian. “My dad and I play soccer and basketball together.”

Your generous support helps kids like Julian get back to being kids. Your gift can help provide groundbreaking treatments and give kids the support and care they need to live healthy lives.
