Giving Through Your IRA
Making a gift through your IRA is tax-smart way to give more to the causes you love—like Lurie Children’s!
If you’re 70 ½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift from your IRA directly to Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. No taxes. More impact. Your gift helps fund lifesaving treatments, groundbreaking research, and brighter futures for kids.
Why Consider This Gift?
- It’s called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), but you may also hear it called an IRA charitable rollover.
- Lower your taxable income while making a bigger impact. Since your donation comes from pre-tax assets, it won’t count as income—potentially helping you reduce Medicare premiums and taxable Social Security benefits.
- Your gift goes further! Because it’s tax-free, every dollar you give directly helps kids.
How It Works:
- You must be at least 70 ½ to make a QCD.
- If you’re 73 or older, you have to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)—which means paying income tax OR donating directly to a charity like Lurie Children’s tax-free!
- You can give any amount (up to $108,000 per year, per person) from a traditional IRA to a qualified charity. (Roth IRAs don’t qualify.)
- No itemizing required—you get the tax benefits even if you take the standard deduction!
