Frequency of urination implies more than the usual seven times per day, and urgency to urinate is difficulty in delaying using the toilet. This condition is sometimes called “overactive bladder” or “urge syndrome” and may be caused by a neurologic problem, an anatomical problem, or unknown origin.

A common cause is a urinary tract infection. A physician should be seen if there is fever, back pain, vomiting, chills, bloody/cloudy urine or a discharge from the penis or vagina.
