SAILS Summer Program

SAILS is providing a FREE 4-week curriculum to teach teens to prepare for their future in work, college and managing their healthcare. Participants can choose to attend one or all of the sessions being offered. Sessions are intended for youth ages 16 and up, but all are welcome! Light dinner will be served at each session.

2022 Sessions

Jobs & College | June 22 | 6 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
This session will focus on job finding basics like writing a resume, answering interview questions and how to present yourself at an interview. Also, information will be presented on college accommodations and what to plan for if you are going to college with special healthcare needs.

Presenters: JVS (Jewish Vocational Service) and Sophia Hamilton, Director of the Disability Resource Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago

How Do I Find a Doctor | June 29 | 6 p.m.–7 p.m.
Healthcare transition 101 - this session will discuss how to find adult medical providers and how to think about organizing your care as you move from pediatric to adult healthcare systems.

Mental Health | July 6 | 6 p.m.–7 p.m.
This session will focus on how to recognize when you might need additional support from a mental health professional and resources to get help.

This session will focus on how to recognize when you might need additional support from a mental health professional and resources to get help.

Healthcare Skills | July 13 | 6 p.m.–7 p.m.
This session will focus on important health care skills to know as you get older including medication management, making appointments, and getting ready for your first adult appointment.

Important Notices

All attendees are required to wear a mask at all times while present in the hospital and at all Lurie Children’s facilities, unless eating or drinking.

All attendees must be free from any COVID-19 symptoms or other contagious illness.

Anyone with symptoms of a viral illness such as fever, sore throat, cough, sneezing, runny nose, vomiting, or diarrhea will not be allowed to attend.

Because people can spread illness even before they show symptoms, anyone who has been exposed to a communicable disease in the past 30 days such as chicken pox, shingles, measles, tuberculosis (TB), mumps or whooping cough/pertussis will not be allowed to attend.

Vaccination for COVID-19 is strongly encouraged for attendees but not mandatory.
