What is Virtual Immediate Care?
Virtual Immediate Care provides the opportunity to access care for your child’s urgent health needs from the comfort of your home. Our urgent care is for treatment of non-emergencies or non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
Our quick guide can help you decide the right place to seek care for your child:
What is Not Appropriate for Virtual Immediate Care?

Other Frequently Asked Questions
To help you determine the right place to seek care for your child, download this guide.
Prior to the appointment, each patient is required to complete eCheck-In so we can gather important information for your visit. You will also need to complete a short pre-visit questionnaire.
The questionnaire contains 5 brief questions to help our providers access information that may be helpful for the virtual visit:
- Weight
- Current Temperature
- Heart Rate
- Optional attachment for pictures (if you have a concern about a rash)
- Referral Source
Heart Rate can be found using a home monitor if you have one, or manually using the instructions below:
Infants (Less than 12 months old)
- Lay your baby down on the back with one arm bent so the hand is up by the ear. Feel the pulse on the inner arm between the shoulder and the elbow.
- When you feel the pulse, count the beats for 15 seconds.
- Multiply that number by 4 to get beats per minute.
Child (1+ Year Old)
- Gently feel on the inside of the wrist on the thumb side with two fingers (don't use your thumb) until you feel a beat.
- When you feel the pulse, count the beats for 15 seconds.
- Multiply that number by 4 to get beats per minute.
- Have activities, toys, and other comfort items for your child during the visit. Avoid loud videos/televisions in the background that may be distracting.
- Please log in early—we recommend at least 15 minutes before the appointment in case any issues arise. Give yourself plenty of time to log in, test your device, complete eCheck-In and the questionnaire, and prepare for the appointment to ensure that your appointment start time will not be delayed because of technical problems. Please call 312.227.3514 if you need technical assistance.
- The patient must be present during the Virtual Immediate Care appointment.
- For safety reasons, the visit cannot take place if the parent or patient is in a moving vehicle. If you are unable able to pull over and park, the visit will need to be rescheduled.
- If your visit is for a rash:
- You may upload up to 4 pictures of the rash.
- Pictures must be clear. Make sure you are in a well-lit area. Center the rash on your screen. If your camera is too close, it may make the photo blurry.
- You will be able to view your after-visit summary for important information related to your child’s visit through the MyChart portal. Here, you can also schedule any needed follow-up appointment(s). You should also receive a survey about your telemedicine visit. Please complete the survey, as your feedback is very important to us.
- If a note was requested, it will also be sent electronically to MyChart and can be viewed after the visit.
