When your child is struggling, getting the right support quickly can make all the difference. Lurie Children's offers virtual consultations for urgent behavioral health concerns as a convenient, compassionate alternative to visiting the emergency department.

Through our Rapid Access Behavioral Health Program, our team of social workers and psychologists is available to children and adolescents under 18 experiencing concerns such as:

  • Crisis support
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Self-injurious thoughts/behaviors
  • School avoidance
  • Significant mood or anxiety symptoms (e.g., major depression, panic attacks)

The program is designed for urgent but non-emergency behavioral health needs. Virtual visits may not be the right fit for every situation. Scheduling is not available when any of the following apply:

  • A suicide attempt in the last seven days
  • Physical aggression in the last 24 hours
  • A change in status (hearing voices, change in vision or speech) in the last 24 hours
  • A primary concern for substance use or eating disorder treatment
  • Looking to establish routine behavioral healthcare or psychological testing services
