Pulsed Dye Laser

Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) is used to treat various blood vessel conditions of the skin. This laser is best for lesions that are red because it uniquely targets red blood cells in the skin’s surface. It is most often used for port wine stains/capillary malformations, spider angiomas and hemangiomas​. With repeated treatments, the red color from the surface blood vessels will fade. When this laser is used for ulcerated hemangiomas, they may heal more quickly and pain improves. Port wine stains often require many treatments to achieve maximum lightening in color. This treatment can be done in the dermatologist’s office or under general anesthesia. Your dermatologist will plan the best course of treatment with you and your child.
