Exercise-Induced Asthma

A condition triggered by physical activity, it causes the small breathing tubes to tighten, making it difficult for air to leave the lungs. Also called exercise-induced bronchospasm.

Female Athlete Triad

A syndrome consisting of three related conditions: disordered eating habits, irregular or absent menstrual periods, and osteopenia (thinning of the bones).

Femoral Anteversion

A common developmental problem in children, also called intoeing, where the top of the thigh bone (femur) is rotated, causing the foot to turn in.

Foot & Ankle Pain

Freiberg Infraction

A condition affecting the metatarsal bones of the foot, most commonly the bone underneath the second toe. The rounded end or ‘head’ of the bone collapses and flattens.

Growing Pains

A common pain syndrome that occurs in children. Not a result of a disease or other condition, nor do they lead to any injury or damage to the bones or joints.

Gymnast’s Wrist (Distal Radial Epiphysitis)

Irritation and inflammation of the growth plate (epiphysis) at the end of the radius (forearm bone) where it connects to the hand to form the wrist.

Heat Illness

A group of conditions which occur when the body is heated at a high rate and cannot cool itself fast enough.

High Ankle Sprain (Syndesmosis Sprain)

An injury to the ligaments connecting the tibia and fibula just above the ankle joint. Compared to lateral ankle sprains, high ankle sprains are less common and longer to heal.

Idiopathic Toe-walking

Persistent walking on the toes or the balls of the feet, fairly common in kids who are learning to walk.

Iliotibial (IT) Band Friction Syndrome

One of the leading causes of knee pain in runners, occurs when this tendon gets irritated or inflamed from overuse, causing pain and snapping on the outside of the knee.

Internal Snapping Hip Syndrome

Snapping sound occurring with flexion or extension of the hip, coming from the tendon of the hip flexor muscle as it moves through its normal motion across the hip joint.
