The Department of Speech-Language Pathology at Lurie Children’s offers comprehensive and individualized care to children and adolescents with communication and feeding-swallowing disorders. As one of the Midwest’s major referral centers, we care for children with a variety of pediatric speech, language and feeding-swallowing disorders.

Our clinicians evaluate and treat children at a number of outpatient centers in the metropolitan Chicago area. We also offer services to children during their hospitalization in most hospital units, including the neonatal intensive care unit and the Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit.

We believe in family-centered care, which means we involve the whole family in a patient’s treatment plan. From bringing family members into care plan meetings, to providing support and distraction to a patient’s siblings, we do our best to help fit our care within your lifestyle. Visit Family Services to learn more.

The Lurie Children's Difference

We recruit the most highly qualified pediatric speech-language pathologists. Each clinician is certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and maintains the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). Many of our clinicians also maintain affiliation and membership with other professional groups or hold specialty certifications.

Our speech-language pathologists complete intensive competency training in specific areas to continue to develop their high levels of expertise. In addition to patient care, our team members actively participate in research, mentorship, education and community outreach.

Nationally-Ranked Care

Lurie Children’s continues to be the #1 children's hospital in Illinois and is ranked in 11 specialties by U.S. News & World Report.
