The Division of Pediatric Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Lurie Children’s has an outstanding reputation for treating infants, children and teens who have defects that are congenital (present at birth) or acquired. We see more patients than any other pediatric plastic surgery service in Illinois.
Our specialists have extensive experience in treating children of all ages. We work in multidisciplinary teams that include the following pediatric specialists:
- Board-certified plastic surgeons
- Dentists, including orthodontists and oral surgeons
- Dermatologists
- Ear, nose and throat doctors (otolaryngologists)
- Interventional radiologists
- Psychologists
- An advanced practice nurse and pediatric nurses
- Social workers
- Speech therapists
The team also draws on the expertise of nearly all of the hospital’s pediatric specialties.
The division head, Arun Gosain, MD, joined Lurie Children’s in 2012, bringing his expertise in facial reanimation surgery to treat paralyzed facial muscles, in addition to his broad interest in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery. Dr. Gosain is board certified in both general surgery and plastic surgery and has more than 20 years of experience in plastic surgery. He received advanced training in craniofacial surgery, hand surgery and microsurgery.
Nationally-Ranked Care
Lurie Children’s continues to be the #1 children's hospital in Illinois and is ranked in 9 specialties by U.S. News & World Report.
Approach
We believe in family-centered care, which means we take care of the whole family and ensure they’re deeply involved in their child’s care. Family education and counseling is a major emphasis of our care.
A multidisciplinary team of experienced healthcare providers will treat your child. Multidisciplinary teams are essential for treating the many complex conditions that need plastic surgery. The division has an active part in several large multidisciplinary teams at Lurie Children’s, including those listed below.

This team treats cleft lip and palate and other abnormalities of the head (cranium) and face. Along with plastic surgeons, this team includes pediatric specialists from audiology, dentistry, genetics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthodontics, otolaryngology, psychology, social services and speech and language pathology.
Vascular Lesions
This team treats abnormalities of the blood vessels (vascular lesions) involving the skin and soft tissues. These lesions include hemangiomas, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), venous malformations and lymphatic malformations. Joining plastic surgeons on this team are pediatric specialists from dermatology, interventional radiology, genetics, hematology, general pediatric surgery, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, psychology, rehabilitative services and social services.
Cosmetic Surgeries
Our plastic surgeons also perform cosmetic surgeries in teenagers. These procedures include rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), body contouring (such as liposuction) and enhancement of facial contour.
