Point-of-Care Testing

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is performed in inpatient and ambulatory units of Lurie Children’s, as well as several satellite locations. The type of POCT performed depends on the clinical needs of that specific area and includes waived and non-waived POCTs such as bedside glucose, blood gases, electrolytes, activated clotting time, creatinine, fecal occult blood, urinalysis, streptococcus, hemoglobin and hemoglobin A1C. The POCT team ensures regulatory compliance and proper training of all staff administering POCTs at all hospital locations.
