Lurie Children’s Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine cares for more than 41,000 children each year. We provide a range of services for children with bone, joint, muscle, ligament, tendon and nerve (musculoskeletal) disorders and offer the only pediatric bone health program in Illinois. The division is nationally-ranked by U.S.News & World Report.
As one of the top pediatric orthopedic programs in the country, our doctors have advanced training in pediatrics and orthopedic surgery. They provide the specialized care that growing children and teenagers need. Our physicians are also experts in areas of the body such as the spine and foot/ankle.
We provide family-centered care and treat the whole family, not just the patient. Our providers take time to answer your questions, make sure you are comfortable with the treatment plan, and suggest other resources and support. Our services are available at the main hospital and outpatient sites throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. If your child needs an operation, a pre-op visit can be scheduled at the hospital so your child can see the amazing and kid-friendly facility.
Education & Training
Keeping with our belief that quality education is inseparable from our quality patient care, we partner with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine to train tomorrow’s leading pediatric physicians. As the pediatric teaching hospital for the Feinberg School, we offer several opportunities for residents to further their education in a pediatric specialty.
The division is led by John Sarwark, MD, who has more than 25 years of experience in the field, and is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He is also the 2014 recipient of the Gold Foundation in Humanism Award and the editor-in-chief of the Orthopaedic Knowledge Online Journal.
Our care is evidence-based and follows the best current scientific guidelines and research. As an academic hospital, we offer patients the chance to participate in clinical research on the newest orthopedic treatments. Our division is actively conducting more than 40 studies focusing on prevention of injuries and prospective and retrospective studies involving treatments, outcomes and quality of life.
