Current Gastroenterology & Hepatology Research

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition maintains an active research program that includes bench science and clinical studies. The division participates in numerous multi-center studies and is a clinical center for the Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis Clinical Research Network and the Childhood Liver Disease Research & Education Network, a collaboration to discover new diagnostics, etiologic and treatment options for children with liver disease, and those who undergo liver transplantation.

Estella Alonso, MD, has been studying health-related quality of life in pediatric liver transplant recipients and patients with biliary atresia, and is interested in normal growth and development following transplant. 

EGID Program Research

The Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases (EGID) Program​ has an active and growing research component. In addition to participation in clinical trials, the members of EGID team collaborate with other institutions to advance basic and clinical research in this area.
