Evaluating the Impact of Diabetes Camp Research Study

Our research team at Lurie Children’s is currently recruiting participants (youth and their caregivers) for a research study about diabetes camp.

Our Goal

We want to compare youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) who are attending diabetes camp with youth who are not attending diabetes camp. We are interested in understanding how attending diabetes camp impacts youth and their caregivers.

Who Can Sign Up?

We are recruiting two groups of youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D) ages 8-17 years and their primary caregivers to participate:

  • Youth with T1D who are attending diabetes camp in the United States this year and a primary caregiver.
  • Youth with T1D who have never attended diabetes camp and are not attending a diabetes camp this year and a primary caregiver.

What is Involved?

  • After completing a consent form and demographics form, you and your child will be sent online surveys four times: (1) Before diabetes camp starts [beginning of summer], (2) After camp ends [end of summer], (3) 6 months after camp ends, (4) 12 months after camp ends. Surveys will take about 20 minutes to complete.
  • If your child uses a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), we would also ask your permission to download 14 days of CGM data at each of those four times.

Will I Be Compensated?

You and your child will each be paid up to $85 with e-gift cards to a vendor of your choice (e.g., Amazon, Starbucks). A portion of that amount will be sent to you after each survey is completed.
