The Division of Critical Care at Lurie Children's is home to a number of diverse research projects. Areas of interest for our physician-scientists, fellows, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and clinical research coordinators include, but are not limited to: social determinants of health, disparities in health care access/delivery, improvement of patient/provider communication, epigenetics, phenotypes of heterogeneous syndromes, interaction between the microbiome and immune system, multisystem organ dysfunction, telemedicine, and implementation of innovative technologies.
Motivated undergraduate students, medical students, international medical graduates, and others who demonstrate a history of academic achievement are encouraged to apply, even if they do not have any clinical research experience. We ask that volunteers have shifts of three hours (min) or more, one shift per week is acceptable.
Volunteers are expected to be organized, professional and extremely reliable. It is essential that applicants demonstrate knowledge of the importance of confidentiality when working in healthcare. Assigned duties will vary based on previous relevant experience, but may include any number of the following: screening medical charts for research inclusion criteria, working closely with attending physicians and Critical Care fellows, and consenting participants for participation in research studies.
