PICU Current Clinical Research

Research is an important part of what we do in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The research studies in our PICU are designed by doctors, nurses and other members of a child’s healthcare team who have have ideas about how to improve the medicine we practice. In order to improve, we must better understand critical illness, and a family's experience in the PICU.

A child’s clinical care always comes first. For this reason, study team members always check with a child’s doctor before asking a family to participate in a research study. Research studies are always voluntary; families can say “no” at any time during their hospital admission. A family’s withdrawal from a research study does not affect the care their child receives.
