Megameatus is a variant of the hypospadias, a condition in which the end of the urethra (the tube in the penis through which urine passes out of the body) is not located at the tip of the penis. In the megameatus variant, the “meatus” or the external opening of the urethra may be located but appears as a large cleft in the underside of the tip of the penis and an overly large urethral opening.

The condition may be missed until the foreskin is retracted for newborn circumcision.

Surgical reconstruction is similar to that of hypospadias.
