Foreign Bodies in the Nose and Airway
Foreign bodies are anything that enters the body that doesn’t belong there. Children are especially prone to these. Typically, they are food, toy parts, small household items, or items from nature. Most nose and airway foreign bodies can be removed by a physician in the office with little complication. Removing such items usually include using forceps, water irrigation, or a suction catheter. Successful removal depends on the location of the foreign body, what it is made of, whether its size and shape make it graspable. Physician dexterity and patient cooperation are also important.
