Fetal Health Facilities
The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health is one of only a few comprehensive fetal centers in the country, offering pre-birth counseling and care of pregnant patients with fetal complications, as well as corrective fetal intervention if needed. It was also the first fetal center in Illinois to perform spina bifida repair in utero. The Chicago Institute provides the most advanced care for patients, in a new state of the art environment, designed around the needs of our complex pregnant patients.
Take a tour around our facility in the video below:
State of the Art Suite
The Regenstein Fetal Health Suite, which was recently expanded more than tripling its space, includes a kitchen, integrated fetal ultrasound, echocardiography and MRI, multiple consultation rooms with enhanced video conference and telemedicine capabilities, multi-specialty office space, and direct bridge access to Labor & Delivery -- systems that provide collaboration, coordination and continuity of care.
The new suite offers greater comfort for families through a family lounge and four larger “nesting” rooms, or private rooms where pregnant patients and families who are frequently travelling far from home can relax in between testing, which can take several hours. Each nesting room includes a private bathroom, TV, recliner and a mini refrigerator.
World-class Infant Care
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago also offers the latest innovations in medical care and technology, enhanced clinical programs, advanced research and improved family amenities. Patients of The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health have access to all of the hospital’s amenities while their children are being cared for in our state-of-the-art treatment facilities.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a Level III facility, which is the highest NICU designation in Illinois. It signifies our high level of specialized expertise and the comprehensive resources we use to treat the smallest and sickest babies.
Patients in our NICU are cared for by our neonatologists 24-hours a day. In addition, patients can be seen by more than 70 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists, which allows us to treat a patient’s every need at any time, no matter how complex. Each newborn has their own room, which offers a quiet environment for sleep and recovery. Research shows infants in single-family rooms may experience fewer complications than infants in multi-bed wards.
Our NICU is connected by bridge to Prentice Women’s Hospital to make the transfer of babies delivered at Prentice safer and easier on both the child and the parents.
Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit
Our Regenstein Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) is a state-of-the-art unit devoted to the care of young patients with cardiac disease.
The Regenstein CCU is one of the few cardiac units of its kind in the nation, allowing each child to stay in the same private room from admission to discharge. The high-tech rooms adapt to the level of care the patient needs, and eliminates the need to transfer the patient to other units in the hospital. Our rooms are technologically equipped for intensive care while providing the family amenities of a regular acute care patient room. Cardiac patients have the same healthcare team throughout their hospital stay.
Research shows that this unique model of care greatly improves patient and family comfort and satisfaction, as well as patient safety.
Our cardiac intensive care physicians are available at all times, so your child will receive prompt medical attention. With our knowledgeable staff, family-centered care and advanced technology, the Regenstein CCU gives young patients with heart disease an exceptional place to heal.
Delivery Locations
While many of our expectant parents deliver their baby at Prentice Women’s Hospital, parents often choose to deliver their baby at their local hospital, and then involve our team in their child’s care after delivery. We will help you determine where to deliver, depending on the baby's condition.
