What are eyelid lacerations?

A cut to the eyelid caused by trauma. These cuts often require surgery to make sure that the eyelid heals well and functions properly.

What are the treatments for eyelid lacerations?

  • Eyelid margin involving - a cut that affects the edge of the eyelid. These usually require surgery to make sure that the edge of the eyelid heals correctly and does not irritate the eye.
  • Nasolacrimal duct involving - a cut that also affects the tear duct system. These require surgery to try to restore tear duct function and prevent tearing.
  • Non-margin or nasolacrimal duct involving - a cut that does not affect the edge of the eyelid or the tear duct system. If the cut is deep, surgery is usually needed to repair. If the cut is not deep, surgery may not be needed.
