At Lurie Children’s Heart Center, we believe every child deserves access to expert heart care. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities to deliver high-quality cardiac care and heart-health education directly to families across Chicago—especially in communities with the greatest need.

Expanding access to pediatric heart care is our top priority. To meet this need, we’re bringing our team of heart specialists directly to families through the Lurie Children’s Mobile Health Unit and, beginning in Spring 2026, regular cardiology clinics at the Austin HOPE Center.

We’re also working with the Magoon Institute’s Food, Activities, and Nutrition (FAN) Initiative to help families build heart-healthy habits early in life—through fun, age-appropriate education on nutrition, exercise, and wellness.

At a Mobile Cardiology Clinic appointment, your child will be seen by a Lurie Children’s pediatric cardiologist and a nurse on the cardiology team. This is the same care your child would receive at any of our Lurie Children’s cardiology clinic locations.

An electrocardiogram (EKG) is often done during the visit. If additional tests—like an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart), exercise stress test, or extended heart rhythm monitor (Holter or event monitor)—are needed, they will be scheduled at another Lurie Children’s cardiology location.

Yes, mobile health clinic visits are covered by insurance. They are billed the same as a cardiology visit would be if a patient was scheduled at one of our other Lurie Children’s locations.

In the state of Illinois, every child qualifies for AllKids coverage (regardless of income or citizen status). If your child does not have insurance, we will connect you to our care advisors who can help start the Medicaid process.

Whenever your child is seen by a cardiology provider, the provider’s clinic note is sent to the primary care physician on file. The letter also contains the contact information for the cardiology clinic should the pediatrician have any additional questions or concerns following the cardiology visit. This allows the primary care physician to stay up to date on your child’s plan of care, and it allows collaboration between your child’s care team.

Yes, we offer Video Remote Interpreting for Mobile Cardiology Unit appointments. We also have members on-staff who are Spanish speaking.
