Clinical Work

The Protective Services Team at Lurie Children’s performs a wide range of clinical services to patients and families in cases where child maltreatment is either suspected or has been identified. A Protective Services Team physician and social workers are on call 24/7 to ensure that, no matter when a child enters the hospital, our team can be available.

Clinical services include evaluation and management of suspected cases of child maltreatment, including:

  • Providing immediate psychosocial and medical assessments of children and families
  • Inpatient and Kenneth & Anne Griffin Emergency Care Center evaluations
  • Pooling the knowledge and coordinating efforts of the various disciplines and professionals within the hospital and those of outside agencies
  • Making recommendations to cooperating agencies for treatment plans and long-term care
