Patient T.S.

Patient T.S. is a 15 year old boy who diagnosed with a 2 year history of worsening pectus excavatum. Prior to surgery he was experiencing mild shortness of breath on exertion. He saw Cardiology before surgery who cleared him to undergo anesthesia. His Haller index was 4.8. He underwent a modified Nuss procedure and cryoablation with Dr. Abdullah. He was up and walking on Post-Op Day 1. His hospital course was prolonged due to delayed lung re-expansion, treated with an Interventional Radiology placed pigtail catheter and he went home on Post-Op day 3. At his 2 week follow up he was not taking pain medication, and only took opioid pain medication the first night home. Below is a transcription of his advice given 2 weeks after surgery. Three months after surgery he was back to riding a bike and attending school. His chest wall still felt “asleep” after 3 months.

Patient T.S. Testimonial

Mom: ”We were thrilled to have the cryoablation available to us. It really made a huge difference in [T.S.’s] experience and recovery. He was up walking after one day. He basically went home with very very little pain medication and a week after surgery was just on [acetaminophen] as needed. Its been amazing how quickly he’s up and about.”

Patient T.S.: “To be completely honest I thought recovery was going to be a lot more sluggish than it is. I have to say I’m both impressed with the physical attributes that have gone on in my body, how I’ve changed and I’m impressed at myself. I don’t mean to toot my own horn I am just impressed that I’m doing so well.”
