Capacity Building for Food Pantries and Grocery Stores

Our Food, Activity & Nutrition Initiatives provide leadership for West Side United’s (WSU) Healthy Food Strategy Working Group and Food Pantry Support Initiative. Through this work, FAN helps West Side food pantries to serve more clients, offer more fresh produce, nutritious foods, and provide nutrition education.

In addition, FAN has created a Healthy Corner Store Toolkit designed for community organizations interested in identifying, recruiting, and working with local retailers to create a healthy corner store environment. This toolkit describes how to become a Healthy HotSpot in suburban Cook County and serves as a framework for healthy corner store projects seeking to meet their community’s unique identity and needs.

For: Food pantries and other community based organizations focused on food security
