About the Journal

Health advocacy scholarship now has a home.

The Journal of Health Advocacy (JHA) is housed within the Patrick M. Magoon Institute for Healthy Communities and published by Lurie Children's. JHA is an electronic, open-access publication and aims to have a sustained impact on achieving a just, equitable and healthy society by disseminating health advocacy research and activities, empowering communities, recognizing and promoting system-changing action and nurturing connections for collaboration.

Why Publish with JHA?

• No fees: JHA charges no article processing charges (APCs). All published content is free for readers, and authors pay nothing to publish.
• Open access: Your work is immediately and freely available to anyone in the world upon publication, under a Creative Commons license.
• Format-free submission: Submit in any format you prefer. You only need to reformat if your article is accepted.
• Interdisciplinary scope: JHA welcomes perspectives from medicine, public health, law, social work, sociology, urban affairs, anthropology, arts and humanities, economics, history, political science, psychology, public administration and religious studies.
• Broad reach: All articles receive a DOI, are published in PDF and HTML format and are submitted for indexing in relevant digital archives.

JHA embraces diverse forms of advocacy scholarship beyond conventional manuscripts, from researchers, clinicians, trainees, community partners and advocates, including articles, blogs, visual and creative works, commentaries and other formats that advance dialogue and action in health advocacy.
