Human Subjects Decision Tree & Samples
The 2018, and more recent, changes to the NIH Human Subjects section requirements have made completing this section more difficult.
The Human Subjects Decision Tree was developed to:
- Help investigators determine what human subjects requirements they need to meet
- Provide the Investigator with aides to complete the section
- Checklists of necessary items to complete
- Samples of human subjects sections from a range of recent, awarded grants
How to use the Decision Tree
- Click here to go to the Decision Tree tool
- You will be led through a series of questions to determine what human subjects information you will need to provide in your submission.
- You can request relevant checklists and samples and they will be sent directly to you.
What if you just want a sample?
If you already know what type of human subjects samples you need, you may either:
- Use the Decision Tree tool to request these.
- Ask the research navigators for a specific sample.
- Ask your OSP representative to obtain the sample for you.
