Best African American Response to Asthma Drugs (BARD)

Official Title: Best African American Response to Asthma Drugs (BARD)

The purpose of this study is to find the best treatment for African-American people who have asthma that is not well controlled on a low dose of inhaled steroid. This study will also try to find out if African-American adults and children differ in how they respond to the medications used in this study. The study will also try to see if genes (DNA) or, maybe, chemicals in the blood, urine or phlegm can predict the response to asthma treatment. It will also study whether the home or work environment might have an effect on the response to asthma treatment.
