Abraham Velazquez obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Illinois State University (ISU).
Mr. Velazquez is currently a Research Technician I with the ACT-GeM, where he hopes to learn more about human genetic phenomena. While at Illinois State, Mr. Velazquez worked in a laboratory focused on fungal genetics. There he gained an appreciation for the field of molecular genetics as he investigated the role of "selfish" genes in some strains of Neurospora crassa, a type of red bread mold. As a member of the ACT-GeM team, Mr. Velazquez hopes to contribute to the continuing development of Zebrafish as a genetic model, especially within the field of immunology.
