Response to Uvalde Tragedy

May 25, 2022

Our hearts ache for all the families impacted by the senseless violence in Uvalde, Texas. As an organization dedicated to the health and well-being of children and adolescents, words cannot express the depths of this tragedy and the sorrow we feel for those families who will forever be scarred. We lift up the first responders and healthcare staff who responded fearlessly and will continue to support their community as they attempt to heal from this trauma.

Every community is affected by this horror. We have lost the potential that each of these children and their teachers represent. Children seeing this on the news or hearing about it at school, may feel frightened and confused. We know children process grief and trauma differently and don’t always understand what they’re feeling. Our pediatric psychologists from the Center for Childhood Resilience at Lurie Children’s offer tips to help support your child and/or teen in response to this trauma.
