Lurie Children's Names New Department Chair of Medical Imaging

Cynthia Rigsby, MD, has been appointed Department Chair of Medical Imaging at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Professor of Radiology and Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Rigsby succeeds Jim Donaldson, MD, who is stepping down from the leadership role but will remain on faculty.

Dr. Rigsby has been with Lurie Children’s over 20 years, serving as Division Head of Body Imaging since 2001. She also served as Vice-Chair for the department and as Chair of the Medical Imaging Research Committee. Her research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, including her work with functional 4D MRI in congenital heart disease.

On the national level, Dr. Rigsby currently serves as the Second Vice-President of the Society for Pediatric Radiology and will become President of the organization in 2022. She also is active with the American College of Radiology, American Board of Radiology and Radiological Society of North America. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has lectured extensively.

Dr. Rigsby received her medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine, followed by an internship at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She completed her residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and her fellowship at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati.

Lurie Children's is one of the top children’s hospitals in the country according to USNews & World Report.  It is the pediatric teaching arm for Feinberg School of Medicine and one of only a handful of U.S. children’s hospitals with a dedicated pediatric research center, Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute.
