Lurie Children’s Names Dr. Shannon Haymond as Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

Following a national search, Shannon Haymond, PhD, has been selected as Senior Vice President and Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She is internationally recognized for her leadership in the digital transformation of pediatric laboratory medicine and is Immediate Past President of the Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine. She will hold the Arthur C. King Professorship in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

“Dr. Haymond’s selection reflects her extensive contributions to Lurie Children’s over the past 15 plus years, including significantly improving the quality and efficiency of our clinical laboratories as the inaugural Vice Chair for Computational Pathology and the Director of the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory,” said Thomas Shanley, MD, President & CEO at Lurie Children’s. “Her continuous commitment to discovery and strong leadership in the areas of clinical care, research, and education demonstrate her dedication to our mission.”

At Lurie Children’s, Dr. Hammond also served as the Director of Laboratory Research Services where she led the institutional biorepository’s effort to gain regulatory accreditation by the College of American Pathologists in 2021.

Dr. Hammond is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
