Beginning this Fall, Lurie Children’s will open another suburban location for outpatient procedures. Lurie Children’s Surgery Center in Northbrook is adjacent to Lurie Children’s Outpatient Center on Techny Road in Northbrook. The 26,000 square foot facility has a state-of-the-art high definition 3T MRI, four operating rooms, private rooms for pre- and post-operative care and physician offices.
Specialists from multiple services will perform outpatient procedures and surgeries. They include Audiology, Dentistry, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Otolaryngology/Head and Neck, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Urology. The MRI and medical imaging suite is seamlessly connected to the radiologists at Lurie Children’s allowing for immediate communication between the radiology technician and radiologists.
“Thirty percent of outpatient surgeries performed at the downtown campus come from the Northbrook area,” said Marleta Reynolds, MD, Surgeon-in-Chief and Chair of the Department of Surgery. “We know that it is not always easy for children and families to come into the city and we are pleased that they will have another option. The same board-certified surgical and medical subspecialists and advanced practice providers, including pediatric anesthesiologists, who are downtown will also be in Northbrook, so patients can expect the exact same quality of care.”
It will be the only facility on the Northshore dedicated solely to children.
The ambulatory surgical treatment center complements the Outpatient Center in Northbrook that opened in September, 2015, and the Convenient Care Services that were added in July. A number of diagnostic services are also offered there including EEG, comprehensive dermatological services, neuropsychology, sports medicine, physical and occupational therapy, phlebotomy and lab services, x-ray and ultrasound.
Lurie Children’s is one of the nation’s top children’s hospitals ranked by U.S. News & World Report and is the pediatric academic and research partner of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The American College of Surgeons has named Lurie Children’s a level 1 pediatric surgery center three years in a row. Last year, the hospital served more than 208,600 children from 50 states and 58 countries.
