Lurie Children's and Communities United Team up on Mental Health for Black and Brown Youths

September 21, 2021

In this Chicago Tribune article, Marques Watts, a youth leader and teen activist who lost both his brother and friend to gun violence in 2020, shares what spurred him to join Communities United in changing the mental health landscape for local youth. Earlier this month, Communities United, along with Lurie Children’s, was named as 1 of 10 finalists – and the only Chicago-based community organization – in the W. K. Kellogg Foundation’s Racial Equity 2030 Challenge.

Working with Dr. John Walkup, chair of the Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Lurie Children’s, Communities United has built a 10-year road map to foster youth-led strategies to promote community healing. Read more about this transformational work in the Chicago Tribune.
