June 27, 2017

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is once again ranked in the top 10 nationally and #7 overall by the U.S.News & World Report 2017-18 survey of children’s hospitals. Lurie Children’s also is the only Illinois children’s hospital named to the Honor Roll, which recognizes children’s hospitals with exceptional performance in at least three specialties. Lurie Children’s has four specialties in the top 10 which include Cardiology (#3), Urology (#4) Gastroenterology (#7) and Neurology/Neurosurgery (#6).

“We are pleased to be ranked the top children’s hospital in Illinois and the only children’s hospital in Illinois to make the Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll for six years in a row,” said Patrick Magoon, President and CEO of Lurie Children’s.  “We are especially proud of our #3 ranking in Cardiology and Heart Surgery that is mainly due to our excellent outcomes in this area.”

The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings help parents determine where to get the best medical care for their children. The rankings highlight the top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in 10 specialties, from cancer to urology.

The rankings rely on clinical data and an annual survey of pediatric specialists. Survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, procedure volume and much more can be viewed here. The rankings will be published in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2017” guidebook.

Founded in 1882, Lurie Children’s is the pediatric training ground for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and one of only a handful of U.S. children’s hospitals with a dedicated pediatric research center, Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute.  Last year, the hospital treated more than 174,000 patients.
