About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP). DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.

The DAISY Award® recognizes extraordinary nurses for the compassionate and skillful care they provide every day, going above and beyond expectations in both science and sensitivity. DAISY Honorees join a worldwide community of nurses recognized for making a meaningful impact on patients, families, and colleagues.

DAISY Awards at Lurie Children’s

DAISY at Lurie Children’s is an exciting opportunity to celebrate, recognize, and uplift the incredible work our nurses do every day. One of the most meaningful parts of the DAISY program is witnessing the joy, emotion, and gratitude nurses experience as their DAISY nominations are shared all while honoring the extraordinary impact they make on patients, families, and colleagues. Through compassion, advocacy, excellence in care, and connection, nurses make a lasting difference, and the DAISY Award helps shine a light on those meaningful moments.
