Welcome from the Residency Program Directors

Our Northwestern/Lurie Children’s pediatric residency program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is a central component of the educational and patient care activities in one of the top pediatric academic hospitals in the United States. As the leading state-of-the art institution in providing pediatric healthcare regionally, our residents are key in contributing to the goal of delivering the best possible family-centered care to all children.

The foundation of our residency program is based on education and teaching. Education goes on around the clock and occurs at all levels at Lurie Children’s in many different formats. Our system of teaching and learning is much like the environment of a small college with as many teachers as there are students. We strive to provide each resident with the opportunity to tailor an individualized educational experience designed to maximize your educational goals and career options.

Our dynamic environment is highlighted by innovative, high-impact research activity that enhances our scholarly academic mission. This climate of discovery is dedicated to improving the healthcare of children now and for future generations. Our residents learn to become advocates for the unique needs of children and, through engagement with the community, are poised to become leaders in child advocacy at the local, regional and national levels.

What makes our residency program special is our culture and our people – our residents, faculty, hospital colleagues and staff. We provide a supportive environment that often feels like an extended family. A key component to our supportive culture is our on-going commitment, at both the residency program and hospital level, to embrace diversity and promote inclusion. Residents are not only actively supported by residency program leaders but by hospital leaders as well. This support and mentorship is designed to foster engagement and build future leaders.
