Testimonials

Take a look at what some of our past fellows have to say about our program.

"The Lurie Children’s Urology Fellowship Program has many strengths. Trainees have the opportunity to work with and learn from a large number of attending physicians, providing exposure to a variety of philosophies of care, surgical approaches/techniques and perioperative patient management. The research opportunities are diverse and exciting, and the collegial atmosphere of collaboration and support is second to none."

2012-2015 Fellow

"My pediatric urology fellowship experience at Lurie Children's was outstanding.

In the first year there were multiple options for clinical research as well as a robust lab experience. I had the opportunity to work in the lab with Arun Sharma, PhD, on a project that was very intellectually stimulating, fun, challenging, and was given the opportunity to write up my work in a clinical paper that was accepted and published in PLOS 1. Arun Sharma and the clinical faculties mentorship was truly impressive. Lurie Children’s robust research program was able to provide support so that I could both jump in on continuing projects but also allowed me to start new projects. In my case these projects focused on quality improvement and urodynamics. It is hard to complete a project in one year so having the support of a clinical research staff is vital so that the projects are able to be completed appropriately!

The clinical year was a fantastic experience with the opportunity to run my own clinic, supervise a busy resident service, and choose the cases best able to flesh out my surgical skills. The mentorship from faculty in helping secure my job post fellowship was supremely supportive. Coming to Lurie Children’s was truly like joining a family who cares about your overall wellbeing and educational development. Being part of that family doesn't stop after those two years -- I am still so thankful for the relationships and mentorship of the Lurie Children's staff at national meetings and when I have a challenging patient that I want to 'bounce off' someone."

2014-2016 Fellow

"I had the great fortune and privilege to have matched and trained at Lurie Children’s. When interviewing for fellowships, I was looking for a program with a wide breadth of clinical and research opportunities that would allow me to develop a strong foundation in pediatric urology and continue to explore various academic interests. Lurie Children's offered these and much more. Not only did I receive exceptional mentorship in both basic science and clinical research, but the faculty were also incredibly supportive in helping me explore my newfound interest in quality improvement. Clinically, I was an active participant in a wide array of cases including complex bladder reconstructions, robot-assisted surgeries, hypospadias repairs, and others. At Lurie Children’s, the fellow learns and benefits from the academic and clinical expertise of more than 10 faculty members of various training backgrounds. The faculty is extremely dedicated to the fellow’s academic, clinical, and personal growth. They foster an educational environment that enables the fellow to achieve their personal career goals, whatever they may be. As a budding pediatric urologist, I am extremely grateful for my incredible experiences at Lurie Children's. More importantly, I am very thankful for a group of life-long mentors."
