The Center for Quality & Safety is committed to increasing improvement capability and capacity in, across, and outside of Lurie Children’s by preparing quality improvement (QI) leaders through comprehensive, interactive course sessions to improve the health and well-being of all children. We believe that by learning how to improve and working as a team that we all can be better than our baseline.

Improvement Scholars

Scholars is an interdisciplinary ‘learn by doing’ course that empowers participants to apply basic Quality Improvement science principles to improve functions, outcomes and processes. 

This 6-month course is taught by Lurie Children’s faculty and staff in didactic and hands-on methods. The curriculum is structured around the concepts, tools and application each scholar needs to complete an improvement project. 

  • In 2022, 85% of participants reported a post-course self-assessment rating of intermediate or higher (≥5/9) in the category of Knowledge of Quality Improvement. 
  • We proudly maintain 100% of participants who would recommend the course to their peers.
