Haiku & Canto Device Installation

Haiku and Canto are Epic's Mobile Apps for use with Apple and Android Devices.

You can now install Haiku on your personal device without mobile device management (MDM) from the App Store or Google Play Store. Below are instructions for downloading these applications onto your personal device.

  • If you already have Haiku and/or Canto installed, there is no further action required of you. If you require unlinking of MDM from your device, read the section for Existing Users below.

Instructions for New Devices 

Please complete the following steps from your device:

  1. Download and install the appropriate Epic mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play app store.
    1. iPhone & Android users should download Haiku.
      1. Haiku on the iOS App Store
      2. Haiku on the Google Play Store
    2. iPad users should download Canto.
      1. Canto on the iOS App Store
  2. Once the app is installed, use your device to click the appropriate link below to automatically configure the app for Lurie Children’s.
    1. Configure Haiku
    2. Configure Canto

      “Lurie Childrens PRD” will appear at the top of the login screen in Haiku/Canto. 

      Please contact the Service Desk at 312.227.3445 if you experience any issues with "Lurie Childrens PRD" not appearing  on your device's login screen.

  3. Log in and register Haiku/Canto for your device.
    1. Log in to the Epic mobile app with your Lurie Children’s Epic User ID and Password. You will receive a Login Failure message - this is expected, as your device is not yet registered.
      • This step is critical to notifying an administrator to perform the activation steps for your device.
    2. Please contact the Lurie Children's Service Desk at 312.227.3445 to request the activation of the new device, or if there are any issues with “Lurie Childrens PRD” not appearing on the login screen. 
      • Notify the administrator that you just downloaded Haiku and/or Canto on your personal device and would like to complete device registration.
  4. Once activation is completed, log in to the Epic mobile app using your Epic User ID and Password.

Optional Instructions for Existing Haiku Users with Microsoft Intune MDM

For all users, Haiku/Canto on personal devices that had previously enrolled through Microsoft Intune Company Portal will be automatically unlinked from mobile device management (MDM) without further action from you.

  • Android users: if Haiku had appeared in your Work Profile on your personal device and you would like to move it to your Personal Profile, you may follow the instructions above for New Devices to uninstall and reinstall Haiku from the Google Play Store, then request reactivation of the app.

Note: If your personal device has other apps that require MDM, such as Outlook, Teams, Voalte Me, or Workday, please do not uninstall Intune, as these will all be automatically uninstalled from your personal device, and you will need to follow the Instructions for New Devices above to download and activate the Epic mobile app again. 

Switching Between Organizations in Haiku/Canto (e.g., NM)

If you utilize Haiku or Canto on your device at another institution, you can switch between different organizations by choosing the appropriate Configuration at the top of the Haiku/Canto login screen.  

  • Please work with your contacts at organizations outside of Lurie Children’s to confirm specific Haiku/Canto settings and configuration.

Lurie Children’s

At the top of the Haiku/Canto login screen, choose: Lurie Childrens PRD to connect to Lurie Children’s Epic

Northwestern Medicine CDH/Delnor/Prentice

  1. On iOS, go to Settings. Tap Haiku. If on an iPad, tap Canto.
    On Android, open the Haiku app. Press the 3 dots and open Settings.
  2. For the Server field, enter: NMEpicProxy.nm.org/mobile-prd
    For the Path field: [leave this blank]  

     
  3. At the top of the Haiku/Canto login screen, choose: Custom Configuration to connect to NM Epic
