The Midwest Neonatal Simulation Boot Camp
The 2024 NICU Fellow Boot Camp will take place on July 13 and 14, 2024 at the MINT/Same Day Surgery Center located on the 5th floor at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
The Midwest Neonatal Simulation Boot Camp began in 2019 with the goal to provide a multi-institutional, longitudinal, simulation program for neonatology fellows. The organizing committee consists of a group of neonatology faculty/educators from multiple institutions in Chicago- Lurie Children’s, Comer Children’s, and University of Illinois at Chicago. The largest of the three boot camps is the first-year fellow boot camp taking place at Lurie Children’s, consisting of fellows from the Midwest region.
Most recently, in July 2023, we had 27 fellows from 12 institutions and 5 states. The two-day simulation camp's objective is for first year fellows to learn and refresh cognitive and technical skills commonly required in the delivery room and NICU prior to starting fellowship. This occurs through active participation in procedural stations and active participation in high-risk simulation scenarios. In addition, the boot camp allows fellows from multiple programs in the region to develop relationships through networking. The fellows thoroughly enjoyed the camp with reviews including: “This was a great experience, I loved meeting new colleagues, and loved learning the new skills! Thank you for everything.” “I hope all fellows in the country are lucky enough to have access to an amazing training session like this one.” “This was a great experience with awesome instructors.”
