Dr. W. Zeh Wellington, DNP, RN, NE-BC, American Nurses Association (ANA) - Illinois President
Dr. Wellington is a dedicated nurse leader and educator who is currently the Director of Surgical Services at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and an Adjunct Professor at Illinois College.
Wellington is the recipient of the 2023 Excellence in Nursing Award representing the Amy V Cockcroft Fellowship of Leaders. He was awarded the Operating Room Nurse of the Year at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), as well as being named in the top nurses for the state of South Carolina - being awarded the South Carolina Palmetto Gold Winner. Dr Wellington was the recipient of the 2022 Power of Nursing of Illinois: Pinnacle Leader award and winner of the prestigious Values in Action Award for Compassion at MUSC.
Dr. Wellington is an alumnus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VA Tech) where he received his Bachelor of Science in Institutional Management, Wake Technical College (ADN Nursing) Medical University of South Carolina’s School of Nursing (BSN Nursing), Western Governor’s School of Nursing (MSN) and was awarded his doctorate in nursing (DNP) at Walden University. He was awarded the inaugural MUSC Nursing Scholarship, MUSC/ WGU Foundation Scholarship and the Nursing Excellence Award Scholarship to continue his education.
Previously, he was elected by the Illinois nurses to serve on the Board of Directors for the American Nurses Association (ANA)-Illinois and has been appointed as a committee member for the national ANA. He was selected to represent Illinois (2022-2023) in the American Nurse Advocacy Institute (ANAI) representing the nurses and state of Illinois. Dr. Wellington also serves on the Illinois Nursing Board (INF) - Board of Directors, Illinois Legislative committee, and ANA-Illinois Finance committee. He is a proud alumnus of the 2020 Amy V. Cockcroft Leadership Fellows. Dr Wellington is also a 2024 American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Fellow for Nursing Directors.
Dr Wellington’s various publications and articles on Nursing and Leadership Principals have been accepted and presented in various Nursing and Sterile Processing’s journals. Dr Wellington is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nurses and the Phi Sigma Kappa International Fraternity.
