Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago presents the Chicago Sonographer Update 2022: Echocardiographic Assessment of Left Heart Obstructive Lesions with Optional Hands-on Scanning Workshop. This is a single-day virtual course with the option for an in person, hands-on scanning experience. It is designed to be a comprehensive symposium focusing on echocardiographic imaging of left heart obstructive lesions.
The virtual course will be presented in two parts: An initial 5-hour “live” session on April 30th (8:30 AM – 1:50 PM CDT) will focus on left heart obstructive lesions from fetal life through cardiac repair. It will feature a pathology specimen review and live echocardiograms on patients with unrepaired and palliated left heart obstructive lesions. The presentations will be pre-recorded, and speakers will be available for live moderated Q&A sessions. Additional virtual learning in the form of pre-recorded “on-demand” lectures related to left heart obstructive lesions will be available on the conference website. All lectures will be available to view for 30 days after the conference.
The optional in-person, small group, hands-on scanning session will be held at the Lurie Children’s Hospital shortly after the virtual "live" course. The 2-hour session will be led by senior cardiac sonographers and will give participants an opportunity to improve their understanding of anatomy and scanning technique for assessing patients with unrepaired and palliated left heart obstructive lesions with focus on aortic arch and palliated hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Space will be limited to 24 participants and all visitors will be required to comply with Lurie Children’s COVID-19 policies. Course will be conducted only if permitted by hospital policy and local guidelines due to the ongoing pandemic. Special conference viewing accommodations will be available for people attending the hands-on-scanning session. Please contact us for specific details if interested. The hands-on workshop will not be shared as virtual content. ***Must be fully vaccinated (having all recommended doses of an FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the in-person session). ***
A strong emphasis has been placed on the practical aspects of data acquisition (knobology and image optimization) for the live scans. This is an exciting, clinically applicable program aimed at the sonographer/practitioner directly involved in echo imaging. Lurie Children’s pediatric cardiologists and sonographers will be joined by invited speakers to deliver the lectures.
