An Educational Meeting Developed by Sonographers for Sonographers
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital 16th Annual Chicago Sonographer Update, Echocardiographic Assessment of the Single Ventricle from the Fetus to the Adult with Optional Hands-on Scanning Workshop, will focus on the assessment and diagnosis of single ventricle cardiac anomalies utilizing transthoracic and fetal echocardiography. This single day workshop was designed by sonographers, with the sonographer’s learning experience in mind. The meeting will encompass specific anatomic features of complex congenital heart disease to allow the sonographer to recognize defects, both before and after surgical intervention, in the fetus, neonate, child and adult. Lurie Children’s cardiologists, surgeons and sonographers with expertise in the diagnosis and management of single ventricle anomalies will lead the lectures. Our keynote address by Peter C. Frommelt, MD, will focus on advances in imaging of the single ventricle.
The small-group, hands-on scanning sessions will be led by senior cardiac sonographers and will give participants an opportunity to improve their understanding of anatomy and scanning technique for assessing patients with single ventricle anomalies.
Interesting cases will be presented simultaneous to the hands-on scanning sessions, focusing on clinical presentation and emphasizing the importance of understanding the different single ventricle congenital heart anomalies for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
This course will provide sonographers, physicians and students with a comprehensive assessment of single ventricle anomalies and appropriate pre- and post-operative assessment which can be utilized in everyday application. Upon conclusion of this educational meeting attendees should have improved their ability to:
This course is designed for cardiac sonographers, fellows in training, pediatric cardiologists and sonography students embarking on a career in pediatric cardiac sonography. Participants should have a basic understanding of echocardiography.
