Pediatric Mock Code Resources
Pediatric emergencies typically elicit anxiety and discomfort in many healthcare professionals. The actions by the staff that arrive to manage a pediatric patient in cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) or other crisis event are critical. Yet, simulation of pediatric mock codes and other crisis scenarios has demonstrated that there are significant delays in the ABC steps of resuscitation including application of oxygen, initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation. These delays are detrimental to pediatric survival rates.
Frequent practice via pediatric mock codes can increase confidence, enhance communication between healthcare team members, and improve performance. Pediatric mock codes are an effective form of simulation training, which provide an opportunity for multidisciplinary practice in a safe, clinical environment without fear of patient injury.
In an effort to assist healthcare organizations in developing and enhancing their pediatric mock code programs, Illinois EMSC has developed the following resources that are accessible on this Web page.
