In many settings, emergency care healthcare practitioners encounter critically ill or injured pediatric patients infrequently, which creates a challenge in maintaining pediatric knowledge and skills. All practitioners that care for children in the prehospital, emergency department, hospital and out-of-hospital settings need to maintain ongoing education and training in the emergency assessment and treatment of children of all ages. Illinois EMSC has developed educational modules and has also worked to identify educational opportunities through other organizations that can assist practitioners in meeting their educational needs.
