Linda Zekas is an advanced practice nurse specializing in the care and treatment of children undergoing surgery for a variety of acute and chronic conditions, with a particular focus on neonatal patients.

At Lurie Children’s, she works in collaboration with pediatric surgeons, neonatologists and a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate communication and continuity of care for acutely and chronically ill surgical neonates and their families in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Ms. Zekas is also a member of the multi-disciplinary The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health team. This group of clinical specialists provides comprehensive pre-birth counseling and pediatric care planning for pregnant women carrying babies with medical and surgical problems.

As the regional leader in fetal and pediatric care, this team makes up one of the only Chicago-area programs that provides comprehensive fetal health services, including family education and support, the creation of a customized medical care plan for the baby after birth, and planning for taking the baby home.

In addition, as a Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON), Ms. Zekas also provides care to infants and children with wound, ostomy, or gastrostomy tube issues.

Active in the American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association (APSNA), she is a former member of the Journal of Pediatric Surgical Nursing Editorial Advisory Board. In addition, Ms. Zekas is also an active member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NANNP), and was recently selected to serve on the National Health Policy Committee. As part of this, she is evaluating proposed federal legislation and regulations for their implications on advanced practice nursing and child health.
