Valerine's priority with every patient interaction is safety. She is passionate about providing appropriate periprocedural preparation, addressing and alleviating patient and parental anxiety, and involving the patient and family in our excellent care model. She provides pre-anesthesia preparation on the day of outpatient surgery or medical imaging, planned inpatient procedures, and in Lurie Children's Pre-Operative Anesthesia Clinic (with telemedicine and in-person options). In the Pre-Op Clinic, the team can address required specialty recommendations, patient and family concerns, and review anesthesia with patients and families before their procedural date. Along with our interdisciplinary team, Valerine assesses and identifies the physical and emotional needs of peri-procedural patients receiving general anesthesia, whether that is for the first or the fifteenth time. She is cross trained to the acute pain service as well, to provide inpatient support as needed.
