About Me

Heart health isn't just about avoiding problems later — it's about kids having the energy and strength for what they care about now.

Dr. Marma Perak is a pediatric cardiologist who specializes in prevention. She uses the best available evidence and each family's own values and goals to help children and teens build the heart health they need for the lives they want to live. She cares for children and adolescents with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other cardiovascular risk factors, with a focus on practical strategies that work for real families.

Dr. Marma Perak also leads the AMP Lab, where her NIH-funded research studies how to support heart health during critical life transitions. Current studies include the Heart-to-Heart (H2H) Study, following 5,000 families to understand two-generation cardiovascular health across parenthood, pregnancy, and early childhood, and the Cardiovascular Power Program (CPP), co-designing a heart health intervention with Chicago-area teens. AMP Lab research has been cited by nearly 40 clinical guidelines and professional society statements, directly shaping how doctors care for families.
