Dennis B. Liu, MD, is an Attending Physician in the Division of Urology at Lurie Children's. Dr. Liu received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Northwestern University. He completed residency training in urologic surgery at the Medical College of Ohio in 2004. Following residency, he completed a fellowship in pediatric urology at Children's Memorial Hospital in 2006. After fellowship, he initially joined the faculty at Mercy Children’s Hospital and the University of Toledo from 2006-2010, where he served as an assistant professor of urology, director of pediatric urology, and associate urology residency director. From 2011-2012, Dr. Liu was at Comer Children’s Hospital and the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he also served as an assistant professor of urology and assistant director of the urology residency training program. Dr. Liu returned to Northwestern and Lurie Children’s in 2012.

Dr. Liu is member of numerous societies including the Society for Pediatric Urology, Society for Fetal Urology, and Society of University Urologists. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is the author or co-author of over 30 presentations, papers, invited articles and book chapters. His areas of special interest include hypospadias, undescended testicles, genital/urinary tract reconstruction, renal and ureteral anomalies (obstruction, vesicoureteral reflux, ectopic ureters, ureteroceles, megaureters, hydronephrosis), prenatal consultation, and pediatric stone disease. Dr. Liu's academic and research interests lie within the realm of medical education. He is currently collaborating with Max Maizels, MD. and the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in developing new and innovative web-based educational resources.


Clinical Interests: Hypospadias, undescended testicles, genital/urinary tract reconstruction, renal and ureteral anomalies (obstruction, vesicoureteral reflux, ectopic ureters, ureteroceles, megaureters, hydronephrosis), maternal fetal consultation, pediatric stone disease, minimally-invasive and robotic surgery
