About Me
As a pediatric heart failure and transplant cardiologist, I center my care around the child and their family. My goal is to improve heart function, help children return to being kids, and, when needed, use ventricular assist devices (mechanical heart pumps) to safely bridge children to the next important decision in their care.
Dr. Anna Joong is a pediatric cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure, cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. She is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Cardiology) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
She completed medical school at McMaster University in Canada, followed by pediatric residency and Chief Residency at New York University. She completed fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center, where she also served as Chief Fellow, and advanced fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiomyopathy, Heart Failure, and Transplantation. Dr. Joong provides longitudinal, multidisciplinary care for children with complex and life‑threatening heart disease across the full spectrum of advanced cardiac therapies.
